Dancing in the Dark

sky absent of moonlight greeted the inky twilight, and the night saw Rhiannon in deep contemplation. She was intentional in her work, moving through the darkness like a phantom. Tonight was a new moon, a manifestation of newness and creation. In the snow, she had drawn a pentagram, with four sides facing a direction.


To represent the earth that grounded them, element of the south, was a sprig of holly, plentiful in the winter season. Representing the air, Rhiannon had placed a single feather, that of a crow, facing east. It had been a gift from Nimue -- as this was the sapphire-eyed first ritual with the Sisters, Rhiannon was happy to include it in the altar. To symbolize the element of fire and the north was a rock of volcanic origin, forged in ancient flames. A beautiful seashell, a soft pink color, selected by Nimue sat on the western edge of the star, horizon of the setting sun. Lastly, an oak branch, an archaic symbol of strength and endurance, sat at the final point, symbolic of the spirit within them and beyond.


Satisfied at last with the display, Rhiannon stood near the eastern point of the pentagram. Her head tipped backwards and she howled, the melodic song of their foremothers, to draw forth her Sisters to this sacred space she had created.
